Principal's Corner

The Principal's Message

Greetings, Brookdale Community!

I feel incredibly honored to begin my second year as the principal at Brookdale Elementary School. As someone who was a seventh grade student at Brookdale Junior High School, I know how important a school like Brookdale can be for the neighborhoods in which our children reside. The community can be proud of the great things happening at Brookdale, and I look forward to sharing with you through updates on this site some of the highlights as we continue to “Work Together to Build a World Class School.

I congratulate our students and teachers on the improvement on our Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Rating. Our 2013 ESEA rating is A. We believe an important factor for this achievement is the result of focused, consistent, and intentional work by our entire staff and all our students. We will continue with our weekly Professional Learning Communities. We judiciously use this time for collaboration. Working together, we continue to refine our skill sets at identifying individual student needs and providing learning opportunities for each of our students to succeed. We will also continue realigning our curriculum to Common Core standards which will become our 3rd-5th grade standards starting in the 2014-15 school year. Currently, Common Core standards are fully implemented in our Kindergarten – 2nd grade classrooms.

I look forward to working with you, your child, our staff, and other stakeholders throughout the year.  It is my hope that your child’s experiences here will be productive, engaging, and enjoyable. We cannot accomplish these tasks alone. A child’s success in school is highly dependent upon the positive relationship that is nurtured between the parent and teacher. We need your support. Clear consistent communication between the home and school is essential to ensure your child’s success. We hope you will be involved in your child’s education. We encourage you to volunteer in our school.

Please take time each day to talk with your child about school and lessons learned. Reading to or with your child each day demonstrates to your child the importance of reading and has a significant impact upon reading development and academic achievement.

Each child’s emotional and physical safety is also a priority of our staff. We strive to help our students develop the character attributes of respect, caring, trustworthiness, fairness, responsibility, and citizenship. We want Brookdale Elementary School to be a safe, nurturing environment for all students.

Should you have any questions or concerns related to Brookdale Elementary School, please call me at 534-5982, or stop by to visit with me. I welcome your feedback and look forward to working with you and your child.

Educationally,
